Chrysler Recall: ABS Malfunction Leads to Vehicle Rollaway Risk

November 7, 2024

Chrysler has announced a significant recall affecting 206,502 vehicles due to a malfunction in the anti-lock brake system (ABS) module. This issue can cause unintended vehicle movement, increasing the risk of a crash.

Affected Models

  • 2018-2019 Jeep Grand Cherokee
  • 2018-2019 Dodge Durango

Reason for the Recall

A malfunction in the ABS module may:

  • Incorrectly illuminate the brake lights.
  • Disable the ABS and Electronic Stability Control (ESC) systems.
  • Allow the vehicle to start and shift out of Park without pressing the brake pedal.

Safety Risks

  • Vehicle Rollaway: The ability to shift out of Park without applying the brake can lead to unintended vehicle movement.
  • Reduced Vehicle Control: Disabled ABS and ESC systems can impair handling and control in certain driving situations.
  • Brake Light Confusion: Incorrect brake light illumination may fail to properly signal the driver's intentions to other road users.

What Should Owners Do?

The remedy for this issue is currently under development. Chrysler will notify affected owners by mail starting on December 5, 2024.

Owners are advised to contact Chrysler customer service for more information and to stay alert for further communications.
